CHOOSE ONE OF THE DESIGN BRIEFS BELOW
1.
Research shows that drinking water helps you to think faster, be more
focused, and creative so many students are bringing in water bottles into
classrooms. Therefore, the textiles technology department will like classrooms
to have water bottle holders that students can use.
TASK: The textiles technology department wants you to
use your creativity to design and sew a water bottle holder that Intermediate
students will like.
2.
Lots
of cushions, pillows and devices are becoming part of modern learning classroom
environments. Students have the hardest time getting everything out there
without dropping it all. How can this problem be solved?
TASK: The
textiles technology department requires you to use your creativity to design
and sew a study pillow for a year 7 classroom.
3.
The
school is a having an end of year picnic. The textiles technology department
has lots of pucker nylon fabric from previous year and will like each student
to have a swimming bag for the picnic.
TASK: The textiles technology department wants you to use your creativity to design and sew a sample swimming
bag that Year 7 students will like.
REQUIREMENTS
FOR ALL TASKS
A.
Your product
must be unique
B.
You have to
use applique as one of the sewing skills.
C.
You
can only use one fabric for the main project.
D.
You
can use other fabrics already in the technology room, old clothes or scraps of
fabric from home for trimmings, pockets and applique if required.
E. You can use fastening if desired but you cannot use a zip or
sew buttonholes.
YEAR 8
CHOOSE ONE OF THE DESIGN BRIEFS BELOW
1. Balmoral school encourages BYOD and the school has
also invested in iPads and other devices for classroom use.
TASK: The
textiles technology department will like you to use your creativity to design
and sew an iPad cover or sleeve for classroom devices or covers that students
will like to buy for their own use.
2. The school is
a having an end of your picnic and we will be going to the venue by bus. The
technology department has lots of oxford nylon fabric from previous year and
will like each year 8 student to have a carry-on luggage bag for the picnic.
TASK: The department wants
you to use your creativity to design and sew a sample carry-on luggage bag that
Year 8 students will like using pattern provided. You are required to modify
the pattern without changing the shape of the bag.

D. You can use
other fabrics already in the technology room, old clothes or scraps of fabric

E. You have to use at least one fastening on your
bag or iPad cover.
RESEARCH

Research and modelling are stages in a technological process.
Research and examine existing technological outcomes similar
to the design brief you have chosen to work on. You can also talk to other
technologists or adults.
Bring to class information on materials used, features,
shapes, pictures and ideas that will be useful to you as you design and model
your own outcome.
